Attractive Frigiliana Holidays with Lots of Offerings
Frigiliana is a small but quaint village in Spain that is located about 5 km from Nerja. However, it has a lot of delightful offerings that are both charming and attractive. There are many historical and cultural offerings at Frigiliana which would delight any tourist who may want a simple but fruitful day trip in Spain.
Location
The village of Frigiliana is located at the foothills of the majestic Almijara Mountain; it is close to Malaga. This is one of the prettiest towns around Malaga with the spectacular mountains and valleys that reach down to the Mediterranean Sea. One must explore Frigiliana on foot to enjoy the beauty of the mountains, valleys, rivers and waterfalls in its vicinity.
Frigiliana will delight its visitors as they enter through its narrow cobbled streets with rows of white washed homes at the sides. These homes make the whole village very picturesque with the pots of colorful flowers at its windows and gates.
Town offerings
There are only 2,000 residents in Frigiliana but one can find plenty of pubs, bars and eateries which cater to all locals and tourists. Fresh servings of tapas, cold beers and tasty local cuisine are available all day long at affordable prices.
Beautiful local handicraft can be purchased here at the many local shops that can be found in the village. These include tiles, rugs, textiles, pottery, wines and ceramics.
Historical Sightings
Frigiliana is steeped in history with the colorful cultures it still practices today. There are plenty of interesting archaeological findings that date back to 3,000BC. The culture of this town was impacted by various civilizations that brought forth many great ancient architectural monuments still standing in the village.
The Rock of Frigiliana stands imposing with 12 ceramic plaques as a reminder of the intense battle between the locals and the invading Arabs in 1569. There is plenty of Moorish architecture around the town which has been well preserved.
There is the 17th century St. Anthony church which was restored in 1976 with a splendid Renaissance style and original frescoes. There are high quality ancient paintings which are also well preserved. Another piece of historical attraction is the 1767 Granary and ancient Renaissance Palace which is now a factory producing molasses.
Festivals
Frigiliana holds many festivals which transform this slow paced town into a vibrant town with the infamous local bull running activity. The mild winter attracts many to Frigiliana to enjoy the many activities.
