Do You Know Some of the Hazards Around Your Home in Regards to Your Dog
We all want our dogs to remain safe. Many dog owners have quite a few problems around their home that can be hazardous to their pet's health. Your dog may quickly get into something he's not supposed to if you're not paying close attention. Here is a look at some of the potential hazards that you need to avoid having around for your dog.
Dogs will eat virtually anything ranging from dead animals to grass. Dogs can be poisoned by many different foods that humans have lying around their homes. Chocolate will affect your dog's heart and is very harmful.
If your dog eats too much chocolate, then he can easily die. Another food that causes serious problems in dogs includes raw onions. Raisins should also be kept away from your canine friend.
It's also important to be aware that wires can be dangerous to your dog too. Unfortunately, getting rid of the wires in your home likely isn't a possibility. Keep wires out of the way as much as possible though to make sure that your dog doesn't start chewing on them and start a fire or even worse electrocute himself.
Owners also need to worry about their dogs eating small objects. They can easily be ingested and choked on. This is commonly a problem when there are little children in the home with their small toys. Whatever you do, try to avoid leaving these objects lying around because the results may be devastating.
It's vital that you don't leave plastic bags lying around the house either. Don't put them anywhere where your dog can access them. If the bag gets stuck on your dog's head, he could easily suffocate to death. If they choose to swallow one, then it can easily choke them to death.
Of course, standard household chemicals can easily pose a health hazard for your dog. Bleach and other chemicals need to be kept somewhere the dog can't get to. Dogs can access cabinets relatively easily, so any cabinets that accommodate chemicals should be equipped with a lock. Antifreeze is another chemical that leads to disaster in dogs, so you should be careful when working with it out in your driveway.
Be very careful when using pesticides around your home too. Dogs have been known to ingest pesticides. If you use mice and rat traps around your home haphazardly, then your dog may get injured by them. Never let the curious nature of your dog get him in trouble if you can help it.
