Local Home Security Monitoring is the Way to Go
When you get a home security system installed in your house, you need to make sure the monitoring company that handles the monitoring of your system is a local business. You do not want a national monitoring company watching over your home because you want your alarm to be responded to quickly and efficiently. If your alarm has to be routed through several centers before getting to the right one, the response time will be delayed.
Your home is your castle. You should feel comfortable there at all times of the day or night, so make sure the local monitoring center provides monitoring 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You definitely do not want a company that closes at midnight and doesn’t reopen until seven in the morning. This leaves you unprotected for seven hours, which is when many burglaries occur. Most local monitoring companies never close and are dedicated to keeping your house and family safe.
You might pay a little more for local monitoring than you would for national monitoring just because the national companies can afford to charge people less since they service more homeowners, but the extra cost is worth it. You can visit the local monitoring station anytime you want to make sure the employees are doing what they say they are and to see how they respond to alarms. With a national company, you can’t do this. You simply have to rely on their word that they are protecting your property.
However, there is one aspect of local home security system monitoring that you should be aware of. Be sure that the company has several employees who are scheduled regularly to keep an eye on the alarm systems serviced by the company. The last thing you want is for your security system to be in the hands of just one person who comes and goes and can only respond to an alarm if he or she happens to be there when it goes off. Again, it is recommended that you tour the facilities first before signing a contract.
There are many aspects to home security system that you need to consider before you make a commitment and have one installed. Probably the most important aspect, however, is the monitoring services that watch over your property when you aren’t able to. Be sure you know exactly who is monitoring your system, where they are based and that they will be there when you need them.
