Why apply for the BMid midwifery degree course at the University of Southampton?

The University of Southampton’s BMid midwifery degree qualification entitles graduates to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a practising midwife.

Midwifery degree courses came into existence because of the academic skills necessary for contemporary midwifery. Graduate skills empower new midwives with high-level complex decision making, critical thinking and leadership attributes.

The curriculum on the BMid midwifery degree course at the University of Southampton is ‘values based’ to ensure that students foster an approach to care that is grounded by the utmost empathy for women going through the experience of childbirth.

Evidence appraisal and research skills form the basis of this midwifery degree course from the outset. Instruction is underpinned by world-class research, which gives students a solid start in midwifery; empowering them to take difficult decisions, co-ordinate care and evaluate practice.

Development of leadership abilities takes place from the very beginning of this BMid midwifery degree course. These skills help students to delegate, supervise, lead, and also to challenge practice.

Midwifery degree students at the University of Southampton experience a range practice settings in order to give them the required skills to practice with confidence. By year three of this midwifery degree, students will be expected to care for a small group of pregnant women under the supervision of a qualified midwife.
