What is T3 and Why Should You Care?

By Adalhard Subscribe to RSS | February 23rd 2012 | Views:

Triiodothyronine, or T3 for short, is a hormone produced by your thyroid gland. Though often outnumbered by T4, another one of the thyroid hormones, T3 is integral in keeping your metabolism going and regulating the systems of your body. Unfortunately, women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) are more likely to develop imbalances in these hormones than those who do not have it.

If you suffer from Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, then you understand how delicate the hormones of the body really are. Though the exact link between Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, and other thyroid disorders has not yet been set in stone by the medical community, it has been asserted that the already off balance hormones that are responsible for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome are capable of causing the body to produce inaccurate levels of thyroid hormones.

What Does T3 Do?

Your thyroid is responsible for a number of functions, the largest of which being the maintenance of your metabolism. Some of the others include:

Regulating body heat

Keeping muscles toned

Breaking down protein, carbohydrates, and fat

Regulating the rates at which the respiratory and cardiovascular systems function

Keeping the metabolism functioning properly is important in maintaining a healthy weight and keeping your body working efficiently. Without the proper levels of T3, you may experience a variety of embarrassing and uncomfortable symptoms, including:

Amenorrhea, or the absence of a menstrual period

Weight loss

An increase in your appetite

Intolerance of heat

Hair loss

Protrusion of the eyeballs

Increased heart rate

Increased blood pressure

Intolerance of cold

Heavy menstrual bleeding

Weight gain

Decreased appetite

Dry skin

Now, the symptoms that you experience will depend upon whether or not your T3 levels are above or below average, but any of the above symptoms can indicate that your thyroid hormones are not at the proper levels.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and thyroid disorders are capable of ruining lives. Because these two conditions are so closely linked, it is important for your to keep an eye on your T3 levels to ensure that your thyroid is working properly.

The other thing a women suffering Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) might do is to look into the Insulite Labs supplements that are available. In particular, the PCOS System offers hormone-balancing effects that have been scientifically calibrated to reverse the condition. That means there is very much hope here, and, for women who properly educate themselves and take the precautions necessary to thwart the effects of the disorder, no reason why PCOS has to be interpreted as a thyroid disorder diagnosis.
