Calling in Sick: Why It Never Fails and Won’t Fail

When it comes to availing leave, there can be nothing that beats calling in sick just minutes before the office is about to open. However not always employees are sick, but then they will still use it because leave is seldom denied for a sick employee; simply it cannot be denied. For all that one knows, the employee may be simply lazy for the day or simply wants to spend the day before the TV from one of the satellite TV providers. And remember their reasons can be very bizarre, and sometimes even too hard to believe. But believe you must. Here are some of the reasons they will attribute for calling sick for the day.

Fooling around in the bed can be great fun remember and is also the most frequent reason why they will report sick for the day. This is the most frequent reason amongst young couples. If you are the boss and bent on getting your employee with his pants down, just make a visit to his home to wish him speedy recovery. You will practically have got him with his pants down.

Remember employees go on unplanned parties, perhaps something they had planned the previous day evening. Requesting leave for a party or picnic is too farfetched and no employee will do it. If you do suspect why not you offer to come and wish him speedy recovery. It is not always unplanned parties, sometimes the employee can be in a bad. Why not let him take leave then? It can be good for the office without him or her for the day.

Employees like to extend their vacation. But why then they make an application for a longer vacation? Simple employers always try to cut short leave requests and calling sick on the day is the employees’ defense. Tracking them at their home can be ineffective; they are anyway away enjoying their vacation. Why not consider discussing a leave application more realistically? It will ensure that employees don’t resort to calling sick for the day. By calling sick for the day they may even plan to extend it by many more days.

One of the commonest of ailments that employees use for calling sick is flu. Understand a person with flue rarely calls 30 or 40 minutes ahead of office schedule requesting leave. A more plausible reason can be a bad back or even nausea. If it is either of these two then the employer can be reasonable sure about its veracity. Don’t forget that employees will not request all the leave they want in a single go, rather they do it extending every other day, and that is a good sign that the employer is being conned.

The worst of all is a no-show leave. Employers will not be notified ahead because the employee would have exhausted almost every bizarre reason that he has already used to the hilt. If they become unreachable then the employer can be sure that he or she is planning another job. The right way to tackle such employees is call them for a discussion and find out if they are happy with their job. If not, give him a golden handshake.

Not everyone who is allowed a sick leave is really sick. Even a perceived pain or indigestion is enough reason to call in sick. The chief reason is plain laziness with intention to spend the day doing nothing. If you thought that terminating an employee for calling in sick is a good tactic, then the employer can surely expect to dismiss everyone. The problem is so rampant and the right solution is keeping a little control and using some discretion
