In botany , the top is a type of inflorescence defined, in which the terminal flower axis is the first to open, while others develop laterally. In these inflorescences the main shaft terminates in a flower, therefore stops grow, but somewhat below it develop buds that also end in separate flowers stop growing.

According to the arrangement of branches: 2

Top unípara or monocasio : the main axis ends in a flower and floriferous branch develops one side, the same in successive branches.

Top circinate or esporpioide: the flowering branches are always born on the same side of the parent branch.

Drepanio: all branches are all in the same plane.

Cincino: the lateral branches are not all in one plane.

Top coil or helix: lateral axes arise alternately on either side of the stem axis.

Ripidio: the lateral branches are all in the same plane, their axes behind mother.

Botrix: the lateral branches are not located all in one plane.

Top dichotomous or dicasio : under the apex of the main shaft, finished blooming, we develop two flowering side branches.

Dichasia paucifloros: they have few flowers.

Dichasia multifloros: they have many flowers.

Top trípara : the main axis of three branches arise.

Multiparous top : the main shaft emerge more than three branches at each branch point.

Depending on the branch: 1

Simple (the main axis bears flowers).

Composite (the main axis bears secondary inflorescences).

The top circinate or escorpioide is a type of inflorescence cymose or closed. In these inflorescences the main axis ends in a flower, so it stops growing, but somewhat below it develop buds that also end in separate flowers stop growing. For convenience, each shaft terminating in a flower will call floriferous branch.

The number of flowering branches which develop under the first flower is variable, it may be one or more. In the case of a single, the inflorescence is called monocasio.

The top circinata is a monocasio with flowering twigs arranged to one side, the flowers begin to open and continue down towards the tip. The inflorescence takes the form of spiral or tail of a scorpion, so also is known as top escorpioide. This type of inflorescence is typical of some genera of Boraginaceae , as Myosotis , Borago and Heliotropium .

The top dummy is a type of inflorescence cymose or closed. In these inflorescences the main axis ends in a flower, so it stops growing, but somewhat below it develop buds that also end in separate flowers stop growing. For convenience, each shaft terminating in a branch floriferous flower will call.

The number of flowering branches which develop under the first flower is variable, it may be one or more. In the case of a single, the inflorescence is called monocasio. If two branches are flowering, the inflorescence is called dicasio .

The summit is a dichotomous dicasio in which the main axis ends in a flower and a little below develop two branches, one against another, each ending in a flower. Beneath these flowers develop two flowering twigs that will behave as above. Development occurs on several levels which gives the whole inflorescence a panicle appearance. The summit is dichotomous gender typical inflorescence of Caryophyllaceae and various Gencianáceas .

The top coil is a type of inflorescence cymose or closed.

The top is a helical monocasio whose branches out alternately to right and left, in one or two planes, starting and ending from below upwards. An example of plants with this type of inflorescence is the genus Hemerocallis.

The ripidio , inflorescence typical of several genera of Iridaceae , is a type of screw top, where unifloras twigs are all in the same plane. In Iris germanica , for example, the first flower that opens is the apex.
