Do You Know WHEN to Bill your Graphic Design Clients?
It feels great when when your client appreciates your remarkably designed logo or website. You feel elated, don't you! However, you if don't receive your payments in time, does it remain exciting anymore? Of course not. Therefore, as a graphic design professional, you should know when to ask for payment.
There is no shame in asking for your remuneration if the client delays it unnecessarily. There cannot be any specific time to bill your clients. As graphic artists from web graphic design India agencies or elsewhere, you can bill as per your convenience.
It doesn't matter whether you are from graphic design services India or a reputable design agency from the U.S., you should get your dues cleared.
Bill When the Project is On
Though some designers ask for payments before the commencement of a project, it is advisable that you ask for payments while working on it. There are two factors to consider when choosing this option. Lets have a look:
Bill at Predefined Intervals - According to me this is the best option. You get your payments after some part of a project is completed and delivered to your client. Say for instance, it takes 3 months to design the 'Home Page' and 'Contact Us' page of a client website. Send across the bill to your client, the moment it is delivered and approved. This is beneficial for both you and the client.
Billing After Every Week – This is also called time-based billing. If you are able to complete the font design and color of a logo, then ask for payments after a week. It makes the work move smoothly, the client has an idea of the work progress while clearing off your dues.
Payments Before Commencement
This is not a bad idea if you can persuade your client to clear your bills. In one way, it is safe since there is no chance of any financial loss, provided your client is a soft nut to crack! You can ask your client to pay up either in full or part.
Full Payment – If you have good communication and persuasive skills, you can ask to settle your web or logo design payments in full. For this, you have to really strive hard to get your payment all at once. This option is beneficial if you need any premium photos, or need to hire the services of a professional photographer. The advance cash will prove useful.
Part Payment – If you feel you will annoy your client by asking for full settlement of bill, simply ask for part payments. This keeps both parties happy. As a designer, you feel more responsible to offer quality work for which you received payment in advance. Similarly, by paying, the client ensures that he gets his work delivered in time, and the down payment doesn't go to waste.
In no case, you should agree to receive payments after the completion of a project. There are deceptive clients who simply vanish into oblivion after a Graphic design project is delivered.
