South America Tour Packages: Where to Go
Picking just one place to visit in South America can be close to impossible. But there is a solution: Don’t pick just one! South America tour packages are travel itinerary suggestions specially planned and designed by travel experts. Many companies can also tailor these trips for individuals based on personal interests. You can go backpacker budget, or make is classy by taking a South America luxury tour.
Here are several South America packages to consider.
Machu Picchu and the Galapagos Islands. These are two of region’s most remarkable destinations so save yourself the international airfare and visit them both in one trip. Even on a limited amount of time you can do both a Galapagos Cruise and a Machu Picchu tour, both can be done in less than 2 weeks if the planning is done correctly. When doing this trip, be sure to factor in time to adjust to the altitude in Cuzco, which is the launching point for excursions to Machu Picchu. Going from sea level at the Galapagos Island to above 8,000 feet in the Peruvian Andes can take a toll on the body.
Rio de Janeiro and Iguazu Falls. Brazil is a massive country, but if you just want to see the highlights of southern Brazil, visit the vibrant city of Rio before seeing the magnificent falls of Iguazu. With this trip you can get roundtrip airfare to the city of Rio and roundtrip domestic airfare to Iguazu, which is isolated in the jungle along the borders of Argentina and Brazil.
Patagonia and Buenos Aires. Patagonia is the sweeping region that makes up the southern third of Chile and Argentina. It is full of barren plains as well as stunning glaciers and icy fjords. The most comfortable way to visit is to stay at either a Patagonia lodge or estancia. If you’re interested in a lodge, the best place to stay is in Torres del Paine National Park. If you want to stay at an estancia, which is like a ranch, the area surrounding El Calafate is a wonderful place to do this.
Easter Island and Santiago. Chile is a unique country, all long and thin running along the western coast of South America. Visit its capital, Santiago, which is surrounded by mountains great for skiing, as well as some fertile wine regions. Then head to Easter Island, a tiny dot of land far from the mainland but owned by Chile. This island has a mysterious history which you can see when you arrive, as the ancient inhabitants left massive stone statues scattered throughout the island.
