Work permit is an official document issued by an officer that allow a person who

is not a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident to work in Canada. It is valid only for a specific job and length of time. A work permit may also be issued on the basis of a Labour Market Opinion (LMO) issued by Human Resources and development Canada. You should apply for a Canadian work permit as soon as you receive written evidence of your job offer or contract of employment and your Labour Market Opinion.

To be eligible for a Canadian work permit you must:

• Satisfy an officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your employment

• Show that you have enough funds to support yourself during the stay in Canada and for any family members.

• Be law abiding and have no record of criminal activity.

• Have a police clearance certificate

• Not be a threat to the security of Canada

• Be in good health and complete a medical examination

An officer may impose conditions on your work permit. These may include one or more of the following: the type of employment in which you may work, the employer for whom you may work, the location where you may work and how long you may continue to work. If you do not work during the entire specified period on your work permit, you may be required to submit proof of the time not worked when you apply for another permit later on.

Study permit Canada is given for a period of study in Canada more than 6 months. You must obtain a letter of acceptance from your educational institution in Canada. You should have the letter of acceptance before submitting your application for a study permit. The processing of a study permit takes 4-6 weeks. You must apply for a permit at a visa office outside of Canada before you depart for Canada.

A study permit Canada allows the student to travel to Canada and study at the primary, secondary, college or university level and remain temporary in Canada as a temporary resident student for a period of your course. Spouses and children can apply for their own work permit without having a pre arranged job offer and without the need for a Labour market opinion. They should apply at the same time as you. Their permit will be valid for the same period as your authorization to study in Canada.
