Agra Tourist Attractions - Mehtab Bagh and Keetham Lake
The city of Agra is full of many historical monuments and so, people from all over this planet, like going on Agra tours. Agra tourism is a great source of revenue for the government of India and Agra tour packages sell like hot cakes, all the year around. Apart from the famous places in Agra, like the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Faterpur Sikri, there are many other places of interest in Agra, which are also popular with the tourists visiting from other parts of India and also with tourists coming from foreign countries, mainly European countries.
Mehtab Bagh is one such place in Agra, which is quite popular with the tourists. It is a Mughal style garden which is situated near the Taj Mahal, on the banks of the River Yamuna. It is also a Persian style, Charbagh garden and was quite popular with the Mughals. It is unsure as to who actually built it. Even though some claim that it was built by the Mughals, but some historians say that it has existed even before the arrival of the Mughals. Hence, it’s an old garden and is also known as ‘Moonlight Garden’. It was renovated by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in the 15th century, after a great flood on the river Yamuna had devastated it.
It is a fact that there is nothing much to see in this garden but, people visit this place for two reasons: because of its historical importance and for the purpose of getting a wonderful view of the Taj. Before booking your Agra tour package, you may enquire if this place is included. The garden gives a great view of the Taj Mahal and people like taking photographs of the Taj Mahal from Mehtab Bagh. It is also visiting by many people during their Agra tours.
Another important place to visit near Agra is the Keetham Lake, which is situated near Akbar’s Tomb in Sikandra. It is also known as Sur Sarovar and is a very peaceful place where people often go for picnics. People can easily see many beautiful birds, sitting on the banks of the lake or flying over it. There is a bird sanctuary situated near the lake and is the home to more than 100 different species of birds. Siberian and Sarus cranes can be easily spotted in this bird sanctuary. It is included in many Agra tour packages and people also visit it during their Delhi Agra tour. You can easily book a Delhi Agra tour package online.
The best time to visit this lake is between September and March. The temperature remains extreme in summer and winter. In summer it can go up to 50 degree Celsius, whereas in winter it can dip down to 1 degree Celsius. Hence, people are advised not to go to this place during these seasons. Both the places mentioned above should not be missed and we advise that everyone should visit these places during their Agra tour as they will enjoy the experience.
