From this humble origin, Vienna grew to become a powerful and wealthy trading hub, and subsequently the seat of power for the Holy Roman empire and the centre of the Hapsburg rulers power. Vienna has changed hands many times over the years, it was captured twice by Napoleon, and was invaded by Germany during World War II, and despite this it maintains some exceedingly impressive structures, detailing its history in its architecture.
