This region in Spain is known as land of many rivers since it has many of them cutting across it from the mountains down to the coast. The coastal part of Galicia is a great spot for holidays with the smooth beaches that it has but also have high and dangerous cliffs that it even has a coast given the name coast of death because of the cliffs. The tomb of Saint James was found here and pilgrims make their way to a cathedral elected in his honor through the world famed Way of Saint James. The folklore here showcases Gaelic and Celtic origins of the land and is also characterizes with musical instruments.
Major Attractions in Galicia
The Capital: Santiago de Compostela is Galicia’s capital and it is also where the pilgrimage ends. The pilgrimage way makes it very interesting and it is also one of the most beautiful cities in all of Spain hence worth visiting.
A Coruna: this city is also a major attraction in Galicia mainly because of the economical importance that it has. Situated on a Peninsula it is definitely a hot spot for business. You will find the Old quarter, the synagogue and the Romanesque churches here very impressive offering a wonderful contrast between stone palaces which are massive and fragile buildings.
Vigo: it is the most populated city in Galicia and it could be as a result of the port which is based here. It has a historic center which is nothing short of charming and is also very well preserved.
Lugo and Ourense: these two cities also make it to the attractions list in Galicia. Lugo is interesting with its roman walls surrounding it with the most outstanding feature within it being the magnificent Romanesque cathedral. Ourense on the other hand also houses a Romanesque cathedral that is quite beautiful and the city is located on the inland part of the region.
