Ranthambore National Park and Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary in India
Ranthambore National Park and Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary are famous Indian national park & wildlife sanctuary. Ranthambore is located in Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan state in North India while Periyar is located in Kerala state in South India. Both are very popular among tourists coming from different parts of the world. One is popular destination for jungle tourism in northern India and second one is popular destinations for jungle tourism in southern India. Ranthambore is famous for tiger spotting while Periyar is famous for elephant sighting and tiger spotting as well. Now have a look at both of them one by one.
Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan, North India
Ranthambore is one of the largest and most important national parks & tiger reserves in the northern India. It was established as the Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary in the year 1955 by the Government of India. Later in the year 1973 it was declared as a tiger reserve (one of Project Tiger reserves of India). Later in the year 1980 it became a national park.
Ranthambore is best known for its large tiger population & good tiger density. It is regarded as one of the best places in India to see the tigers and other wild animals in the jungle. Here you can spot tigers easily even during the day time. Leopards, wild board, wild dogs, sloth bear, spotted deer, sambar, etc are other wild animals which are commonly spotted the jungle. The reserve is also home to a variety of birds, reptiles and vegetations.
Here one can also see a giant banyan tree which is considered as the second largest banyan tree in India. Ranthambore Fort is another attraction to see here. Travelers can enjoy best charm of Ranthambore by exciting jeep safari rides in the forest. Undoubtedly, Ranthambore is one of the best destinations on India wildlife tours.
Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, Kerala, South India
Periyar is a famous tiger & elephant reserve and national park. It is one of the most important national parks and wildlife sanctuaries in India. The reserve has a variety of different species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects, trees and plants. Periyar is best known for tigers and elephants. It is clearly better than Ranthambore National Park for spotting tigers. There are an estimated 53 tigers (2010) in the park. You can also see here herds of Indian elephants in the act of ablution and playfulness by the Periyar Lake. Boating facilities on lake is available here. You can also enjoy here elephant safari ride to explore jungle and view wildlife.
