Eat well in Puerto Rico

When you visit a new place, you will of course want to try out its culinary landscape. Considering the number of places you can eat at in Puerto Rico, it would be a good idea to have a list of places that are considered the best and work your way through it, while you discover other places on your own. Here are some of the best restaurants that Puerto Rico has to offer.

Aguaviva is based in San Juan and is a chic tropical restaurant that gives you the best of Latino seaside cuisine. It has a gorgeous blue interior that is instantly soothing. Ceviche is one of the best bets here especially at the raw bar and you must partake of the cold seafood towers filled with appetizers that are on display. The catch of the day is generally cooked with a lot of pomp and show.

Another great restaurant for the gourmet would be Barú. This is an Old World-styled restaurant and works as a creative cookery showcase that brings together Caribbean as well as Mediterranean cuisine. Besides being a great restaurant it is also a popular night sport. You have to try the risottos and the Carpaccio’s on the menu. The Parrot Club offers you new age Latino cuisine and is again a restaurant that is on par with greats that line the streets of New York and Miami. There are several Puerto Rican classics on the menu. It is also altered to fit in traces of Spanish, African, Taíno and some influences of America as well. A must try is the criolla-styled flank steak.

Do not forget to try Ramiro’s in Condado. It brings out some of the most innovative dishes in this part of the world and has a wine list that is long and exhaustive. The cuisine is called Nuevo Criolla and tries to go back to Spanish roots with hints of European as well as New World traces. A signature dish here is the quail stuffed with lamb in a port sauce as well as the lamb loin.

Budatai in Condado is Roberto Treviño’s Asian-Latino restaurant and comes with an oceanfront view. A lot of native Puerto Rican herbs and seafood is used in the creation of the menu and there are influences of the Far East as well. It has a full-fledged Sushi bar and lots of ceviche. Try the pork dumplings with shaved truffle.
