Granada Towns and what they have to Offer

Pinos Puente: this Granada villages is located about 16km from the main city. It has several good monuments to offer to tourists but the most outstanding is a Moorish bridge that is nothing short of interesting.

Illura: this village showcases much of the Roman Epoch and it is therefore of great importance historically. The Iglesia church is the main dominance here and it dates back to the reign of the famous King Charles the fifth. Not so far from the village is Hipo Nova which mainly shows elements of Iberian settlement.

Montrefrio: perhaps the location of this village which in a mountain range is what makes it the more interesting and attractive to visitors. It has a magnificent castle that was built in 1486 and was actually erected over a Moorish fortress. There are also several churches standing tall with their wonderful artwork making them worth checking out.

Alhama: this is majorly a bathing resort but at the same time it offers a perfect view of the city. Besides the famous baths found here, you will also get the chance to glimpse at the churches and the breathtaking waterfalls found here.

Loja: it is situated in Genil River valley. Even though it is part of Granada province, it is so close to Cordoba geographically. It is a white typical village showcasing Andalusia style and has several monuments waiting to be checked out. The spots you cannot afford to miss while here include the San Gabriel church of the 16th century, an 895 Arabian fortress Alcazaba.

Santa Fe: this town served as the Catholic kings quarters after they had conquered Granada from Moors. You will most definitely be interested in the three doors found in the city and which were built back in 1491. You might also want to learn a little history of the town since this is where Christopher Columbus signed a contract before leaving for America.

Illanoz: the most interesting monument in this Roman settlement is the Los Almendros Castle left behind by the Arabians and the interesting Romanesque bridge.

Guadix: you will be amazed by the earth dug houses which look like caves and are actually referred to as Casas Cuevas. Some of these houses are still occupied to date. Also worth checking out while here are the churches and cathedrals for their interesting artwork.

Baza: the home of Iberian lady polychrome figure which has a rich history behind it and it is therefore one of the places you have to step in while in Granada. The archaeological museum, the monastery and the Arabian bathes add to the list of interesting things to see.
