Madrid is the capital of Spain and that in itself tells that it a very popular region in the country. It is strategically located at a great spot in the country in the Iberian Peninsula. The central location together with the high altitude makes the climate here quite warm especially in summer with the winters being cool and still enjoyable.

Madrid is a land of many great monuments with the main highlights including the medieval center which is a Habsburg empire era feature. The Prado Museum is also very interesting and a major attraction. The metropolis is lively with lots of discotheques, cafes, nightclubs and pubs to offer maximum fun to all kinds of visitors. Traffic is high even in the wee hours of the morning as people wake up early to make their way to work hence the economy is quite impressive.

The city has amazing folklore and fiestas to be enjoyed besides the great landscapes and the monumental value that it has. Most of the quarters here come alive with traditions of the gone days long before the villages joined to form the capital. You will find such traditions quite interesting and it helps to choose the travel time perfectly to ensure that you get to enjoy at least a few of the fiestas here.

New Year celebrations are a spectacle in Madrid with thousands flocking in Puerta del Sol with beat rhythms rocking the nights away. On the tick on midnight, everybody in attendance struggles to eat twelve grapes which are meant to bring good luck with the New Year. It is an event which is watched from all over the city. The event makes the city a party scene every single year.

Three Magi procession is another feature in the folklore and fiestas in Madrid. It takes place on 5th January bringing together many towns in Spain. There is also the Fiesta de san Isidro taking place on 15th May and which is held in honor of the Patron of Madrid. It involves lots of concerts and is one of the spectacles annually. It is during this fiesta that you can enjoy the season’s best bullfights.

Summer in the Village is a great event which involves different well organized cultural events. The events take place during the July and August months and are organized by the town hall. Popular Madrid traditions go down on the 6th to 15th August under Verbena de la Paloma festival. This is where the dances and costumes of Madrid come alive.

Theater performances and concerts take place during the month of September and you can also enjoy the International jazz festival during the month of November and also catch a glimpse of the Fiestas de la Almudena. You cannot miss out on the Christmas cribs exposition in December held in plaza Mayor.
