Entertainment and Nightlife in Alicante
Everybody can find something they like to do for entertainment in Alicante, as it caters to many different tastes of families, bachelors, tourism and youth. There are discos, bars and pubs where you can dance and listen to music all night long. The Spanish are famous for their late eating schedules and it is quite common to have dinner between 9 and 11pm. They also like to take a nap after lunch, from 3 to 5 pm, known as La Siesta. This is a healthy custom in this hot country and even the shops close during that time of the day, as afternoons can be torrid during the summer.
People come alive around 7 pm, going out for walks, shopping and sitting at a cafeteria for some snacks or ice cream until dinner time. Many Spaniards go for a nice walk on the water-front promenade after dinner and is very common to see children walking around and playing around midnight.
The most famous places to visit at night time are:
El Barrio The Center of Nightlife
El Barrio is the name given to the area around the center of the old city of Alicante, where many bars and pubs are located. Its many small winding streets and ambiance make this area very popular. Some of the spots most visited are The Mision, el Coscorron and La Havana, to cite a few. People go out with friends and they typically visit one bar after another until the wee hours of the morning.
Not much is known about the Iberians, and some even think they may have been descendants of Atlantis, suggesting the Dama de Elche could have been an Atlantis Queen. Others say she may have been of alien origin and that her strange headdress may be some kind of headphones from outer space. Either way, this enigmatic sculpture can now be seen in the Spanish National Archaeological Museum in Madrid.
La Explanada de Alicante
This is a very popular area, not only for its many restaurants, cafes and eateries, but also for the pleasant temperature and ambiance. During the summer, the Explanada is full of people sitting down to enjoy snacks or ice-cream or having dinner.
The Wooden Route of Alicante
This is an area where most of the rock pubs, bars and hangouts are adorned with wood. Rock, Heavy and Ska prevail in this area and are popular amongst the youth.
The Marina Area
Elegant and perhaps conventional, the restaurants, bars and pubs of la Marina have a different ambiance from the nightlife at the Barrio or la Ruta de la Madera.
The Barrio of Santa Cruz
This is Jazz lovers paradise. Most of the pubs and bars host live jazz artists to the delight of the tourists. The famous Jazz Festival of Alicante attracts even more visitors to this district of Alicante.
