Castillo de Santa Barbara is the main castle of Alicante City. It has a great history and it has a wonderful architecture. Castillo de Santa Barbara is one the greatest monuments of Alicante, Spain. This monument is also referred as Santa Barbara Castle. This castle is famous because it’s ancient and it’s huge. It is among the largest castles of medieval times. For the same reasons it has great sanctity in Europe. The location of this castle is ideal because it’s located over a peak and it gives a wonderful view of the sea. Travelers visit this castle by road and it has been well preserved by the Spanish authorities. The area surrounding the castle is wonderful in all aspects because it has human settlements since ages.
The castle can be easily accessed by the help of road. The road leads to the western slope of the mountain where pine trees are located. The bay of Alicante is not much far from the Castle. There is a farmland also surrounding the castle. There are places around the castle where the remains of various eras are present. These include the Bronze Age remains, Iberian remains, Roman remains and remains from Islamic period. There have been significant developments to the castle in the era of Felipe II in the 16th century.
The design of the castle is wonderful. The castle has three enclosures since it’s a large castle. The oldest remains are preserved in the highest enclosure. They are dated back from the ninth to thirteenth century. The second enclosure consists of the works from the 16th century and remains of Santa Barbara Chapel. The last enclosure of the castle consists of work from the 18th century and onwards. That includes the Bon Repos Reveille, Felix Berenguer de Marquina monuments and some other important stuff. These things are worth viewing for most people.
