Capital of Spain- Madrid

Madrid is the capital city of Spain located right in the centre of Peninsula and Castilian plain just at height of six hundred and forty six meters above the sea level. This big city has a population of more than 3 million and known for its important role in the development of the country. Being the capital of Spain, Madrid has all the important headquarters of governmental departments like Public Administration, Business Centre, Royal family homes and the Parliament building. This great city also plays a vital role in the development of industrial and banking sector of Spain. Almost all the important industries of the country are located in the South of Madrid including textile industry, Metal working industry and food. Madrid is also famous for its intense traditions and cultural heritage along with the vibrant night life activities.

The big metropolitan area of Madrid was constructed in the time of Muslim ruler Amir Mohammad I during 9th century and the construction was started with the Fortress building along with the left side of river Manzanares. This fortress became the reason of dispute among the Arabs and Christians until the place was occupied by Alonso VI during the eleventh century. A protective wall was constructed at the end of 17th century around the areas of Valencia, Segovia and Toledo. In the eighteenth century, the famous places like Pasea las Acacias and Paseo del Prado were designed under the regime of Carlos III.

During the start of the 19the century, many reforms were undertaken by Joseph Bonaparte and he ordered to construct the famous Commercial Road “Gran”. In the middle of same century a great development was done in the city and many modern complexes and buildings were constructed. You will still find many historical buildings in the city which were constructed in the 18th century like Royal Palace called Palacio Real and Main Square called Plaza Mayor.
