The Pros and Cons of Using CNG Especially for Vehicles

Compressed Natural Gas or CNG is considered to be a very viable alternative to petroleum based fuels. Automobiles these days sometimes come with fitted kits that can help you make use of natural gas to power the vehicle. There are definitely cost benefits involved when you make use of a cng cylinder instead of petroleum based fuels. This cost difference could vary based on the availability and price of natural gas in different regions, but it can certainly come down to a great extent in some areas..

Compressed natural gas offers a more eco-friendly option largely because its combustion leads to lesser emission of greenhouse gases which can greatly help in reducing the effects of global warming. The fuel is cleaner and it also ensures that the engines, spark plugs and even the catalytic convertors are far more efficient than they would be through the use of petrol or diesel. This can be achieved through a reduction in the levels of residue formed due to combustion of the natural gas. A very interesting benefit of the use of natural gas in vehicles is in terms of safety. When there is a leakage, the gas disappears into thin air unlike in case of leakage of a gasoline tank, which could turn dangerous.

There are some problems with the use of these tanks though. One can only hope that with more environmental awareness, the economics of using compressed natural gas will also change. At the moment, you can have a problem finding filling stations if you use cng. Similarly, there needs to be some extra space dedicated to the tank in your vehicle which will reduce the space available to you. The vehicles and the kits are slightly expensive too, offsetting the benefits of lower priced compressed natural gas.
