How to Make an Electromagnet

You must have seen many electromagnets in your life and in the childhood have learnt a lot about them. This is a thing that is used in many experiments and in many types of machinery. The man made electromagnet is an innovation that helped the science progress more than what did before its invention. Now it is time to make one of your own and see how it works.

For making an Electromagnet you need a large nail made of iron. You need 3 feet copper wire which is thin coated and a new D size battery. For the first step, you need to take the main and wrap the wire on the nail in such a way that the strings are not overlapping. Keep 8 inch wire loose at each end. The length at each end needs to be equal. Now remove the thin coating from each end of the wire for about an inch. Now attach the copper wire tops to the two ends of the battery and tape them. Be careful while doing so as the wire can get really hot in the process. As the current from the battery flows into the nail it transfers to electromagnet. You can check if the experiment is successful with the help of paperclips or other magnetic objects.

The Electromagnet in some cases can be turned off while in some cases they cannot be turned off. When you put on the electricity it gets connected to the electromagnet and it converts into a magnet and generate a magnetic field which then controls different operations. It is very effective and the mechanism itself is very interesting. But it is more important to be safe while doing this experiment in your home.
