Well, the name makes it amply clear as to what it’s all about. For business, customer relationship is the key without which it cannot survive for long. While being in business is serious in that is filled with uncertainty and involves high level decision making that could impact different aspects of the organisation and its stakeholders, one decision that could affect both the business as well as its customers would be the one on Customer Relationship Management software (CRM). Whatever the size of the business may be, they would have to rely on customers; this makes Customer Relationship Management Software one of the crucial pieces in the organisational puzzle of profitability and sustainability.

One of the primary questions that businesses need to be concerned about, is that of deciding on the kind of Customer Relationship Management software that would suit the individual business needs. There are factors that need to be given serious consideration before companies choose the right kind of CRM solution that would be the best for business. For starters, it is never necessary for Customer Relationship Management Software to be sophisticated just for the sake of sophistication. The level of complexity of any software, for that matter, has to be directly related to the utility of the software to business. Hence, the first rule of thumb when it comes to choosing Customer Relationship Management Software for business would be to keep it simple. However, being simple alone would not do the job for business – the system has to be scalable. Customer Relationship Management Software is an investment, and organisations are in business for the sake of profits, not for investments. Investments once made have to make business sense, and scalability makes a lot of economic sense for organisations, as their needs keep changing with time.

Another crucial aspect about Customer Relationship Management Software is centralisation. The software is only as good as it is shared, and the different departments in an organisation would be able to share and update in real time, only when the software is centralised, with appropriate provisions for privacy settings, rights and controls. Finally, every decision has to be put in perspective, and they could be judged only on the basis of Return on Investment – Customer Relationship Management Software has to be cost effective and economical, which would add towards business effectiveness and efficiency. It is only after all of these considerations are taken into consideration, would there be a good decision made that would lead to better customer service and relationship in the long run.
