The humans and other primates can be grateful to mothers for their brains developed, because the evolution of mammals with the head consist content is due to maternal attention, concluded a new scientific study, researchers led by University College London.

Initially, scientists believed that a big brain development depends on major metabolism accelerated. But the animal’s marsupials, such as kangaroos and opossums, whose baby pouch is formed and not in the womb, have brains about as big as those of other mammals despite slower metabolic rate of the first.

Therefore, researchers concluded that brain development both marsupials and placental animals is strongly correlated with maternal care period. The brains of marsupials and grow slowly after birth in pockets especially mothers, while placental mammals encephalon rapidly developing in the womb.

Primates, as are people and chimpanzees could benefit from both cases, researchers believe. They spend a long time in fetal condition and enjoy a prolonged maternal care after birth. This could explain the large size of their brains.
