The Differences between Video Hosting and Cloud Video Hosting

You search online and find companies offering video hosting and cloud video hosting. You might be asking yourself, "What the heck is 'cloud video hosting' and video hosting, and aren't they the same anyway?"

While video hosting and cloud video hosting appear to do the same job, they are actually two significantly different methods. For better focus, let's delve into the different aspects of cloud video hosting and see how that might benefit you.

Typically, a video provider sets up a machine or server, connects it to the Internet, assigns a number of resources to store and "host" your videos in it, and charge a monthly fee. Pretend Company A offers a $10-a-month plan with resources worth 10 Gigabytes (GB) disk space and 150 Gigabytes bandwidth, to let your end-users watch five seminars online per month. The company will let you upgrade (increase resources) or downgrade (lessen resources) your plan and charge more or less, depending on your needs.

Some providers squeeze in as many user accounts as possible within the physical limits of that server. One major risk is that the server might shut down if there are too many people using the server's finite resources at the same time. Although you are not fully utilizing your resource allocation, you still need to pay a fixed fee. Whether that happens or not depends on how efficiently the provider manages its users and IT resources.

Cloud hosting/computing is a recently developed system where multiple servers are hooked together and "share" resources. A cloud video hosting can still operate even if one server goes down, and providers are better able to "scale" resources and users among them. Company B might similarly charge $10 a month with similar resources, the difference being you pay X amount for specific X number of resources you exactly use.

Both types allow users to upload their videos online for people to see. If you think about it, there's really not that much difference between the traditional video hosting and cloud based video delivery model. The only differences are how they handle their service, and at what price their services are personally reasonable to you.

Now that you know the difference between video hosting and cloud video hosting, you can better decide which one is more suitable. Again, it all really boils down to your own needs. For more information, visit review sites like cloudhostingtech.com.
