Two Major Type of Heat Pumps Ground & Air Sourced

By Julia Roger Subscribe to RSS | June 20th 2012 | Views:

There are two types of heat pumps available widely in the market: Ground-Source & Air-Source. Both these types are very much prevalent in UK market. They are used for central heating purpose or even boiling of water. Both these types use HEAT PUMP technology for warming purpose. However, ground-source extracts heat from ground, while air-source extracts it from the air present in environment.

Both ground and Ground source Heat pump devices are efficient enough to provide the desired amount of warmness required. They are much better than those gas boilers available in the market. In fact, they are much more secure to use.

However, one need to focus on installation cost of these devices. While a ground source heat pump device will require somewhere around £14,000 to get installed, a much lesser amount is associated with the air based ones. Any air source heat pump device will require somewhere around £3,500 to get installed. It can be clearly seen that Air source heat pump is much cheaper while installation cost is concerned. Also, ground devices may involve complex installation procedure. There need to have sufficient surface area for installation. There is also some serious leakage risk associated with ground pumps. Hence, installation needs to be done in an absolutely safe and sound way.

In case of under floor heating, both these type of heat pumps can be beneficial. It is mainly because of lower temperature. However, both can only work with those traditional radiators. Keep in mind that ground temperature is normally at 8 degree constant rate. However, there is always a massive fluctuation in air temperature rate. It can transform from -5 degrees - +28 degrees. Therefore, efficiency of these devices depends largely on the climatic condition.
