Hearing is one among the five senses we have. Hearing loss usually occurs gradually and one of the main reasons for this is exposure to loud noise for a long period of time. But when we refer to hearing impaired, we usually mean someone who is hard of hearing or who has absolutely no hearing at all. Hearing impairment is basically partial or complete loss of ability to hear.

Many Australians face hearing loss problems, and most of them don’t like being referred to as hearing impaired for the reason that hearing impairment can be caused due to both, biological as well as environmental factors. It is not in every case that someone loses his/her complete ability of hearing but most often they fail to detect the slightest of the sounds that can naturally be detected.

Many hearing loss factors when you grow older are either hereditary or due to health conditions. However, the most common factors for hearing loss are how well you work on hearing loss prevention when you're younger. The first question that comes to your mind is: Is your hearing impaired or are you just stress out? The degree of hearing loss would determine if you are actually hearing impaired or is it taking you to permanent hearing loss. Taking utmost care of your ears will definitely make huge difference on whether you have hearing loss at a more revered age. The best way is to use safety ear plugs, so that you don’t face much problems at a later stage.

The other hearing loss prevention measures would include taking breaks from loud noises at regular intervals. It is found that long exposures to loud noise often damage the ears causing hearing impairment. Always wear hearing protections like safety ear plugs, especially when you have to spend hours together at areas which have noise above 85 decibels. If you are continuously exposed to noise above 85 decibels, you might become hearing impaired or suffer permanent hearing loss.

There have been cases when extremely loud noises have cased permanent damage to the hearing ability in less than a second. Therefore, if you regularly indulge in activities like visiting rock concerts, shooting guns, watching air shows or working in a factory which operates several machines together, you are more prone to suffering hearing loss. And, the best hearing loss prevention measure is to use safety ear plugs, to protect your ears from loud sounds. Keep your music at a low volume.

Avoid using headphones or earphones, because it throws sound directly into your ears, further damaging the hearing ability. And, if the person next to you is able to hear the music, it's too loud. Also make sure that you get your ears tested every two to four years as an adult and once every year after turning 50.
