IBM’s New Space–Efficient TS3100 Automated Library Works Excellently with the New High Capacity LTO Ultrium Versions

The volume of corporate databases is increasing astoundingly, which is a normal event in today’s E-business environment. Therefore, the organizations are forced to deploy more primary storage devices. More likely is that these hard disks might become unreadable due to hardware failure, because they are very sensitive. If you are lucky and there isn’t any hardware failure, but still your data is not safe. Your staff member can unintentionally corrupt the data by over-writing the files, viruses can damage the system files and software bugs can also tamper your sensitive data. To prevent such disasters, proactive companies save a copy of their corporate data and this procedure is repeated periodically.

The massive data volumes need to be managed cost-efficiently and with greater reliability, which is possible with tape libraries. They perform fast automated backup operations with superior efficiency. IBM is committed to continued innovation in tape industry since 1952. That’s why it is trusted by millions of data administrators.

IBM’s high quality tape storage solutions economically serve the needs of small to high-end IT environments. IBM TS3100 is a new precision-engineered library that exceeds the reliability and performance requirements of medium-sized & small companies. The library features numerous storage management applications that dramatically enhance data security and performance. Most importantly, the library has been designed specifically for the tape industry’s most proficient format, the LTO (Linear Tape Open). TS3100 library allows connectivity to multiple LTO versions. Customers have the choice to use LTO-3, LTO 4 or the recently introduced LTO5 ultrium tapes and drives.

This multi-functional library features 2-U architecture and connects up to 24 tapes. Compressed capacity of space-efficient TS3100 library reaches 72 TB (terabytes).

For tape drive connectivity, a variety of interfaces have been incorporated including fiber channel (4 GB, 8 GB), LVD SCSI and SAS (3 GB, 6 GB). The library can accommodate 2 half height or a single full-height drive. It doesn’t end here; the IBM tape media library also provides its customers the option of rack mount and stand-alone configurations. So the evolving storage needs and heightened data security objectives can be achieved with this tape library at a superior value.

Remote management has been made possible through its advantageous web interface. So wherever you are, you can connect to the library and save more time, while enjoying greater administrative control. This library is also widely used for numerous open systems and delivers unmatched storage reliability to the leading IBM “System x” and “Power Systems”. The bar-code reader intelligently manages the tape media, while supporting random/sequential access mode. Backup data can also be stored with 256 bit encryption code. This feature is available in LTO4 and LTO5 formats, thus safeguarding the sensitive business documents.

The IBM TS3100 library also offers new breakthrough “path failover” functionality. This is an optional feature. When the library is performing a certain task and in between if the host adapter is lost, this feature provides a redundant control path. This process is done without any interruption in the current job.
