To accommodate the growing corporate data, you need more space, high capacity storage medium and also a hefty IT budget. Afterwards the data has been backed up onto the storage medium; you also need to secure the data. Successive generations, low ongoing ownership cost, and multi-vendor interoperability have made LTO ultrium the most efficient and intelligent tape-based system ever introduced.

HP Hewlett-Packard is amongst the pioneers of this technology, and that is why it has the highest market share in LTO tape devices. Other major vendors are Fuji, IBM, TDK, Dell, Sony and Imation. Data security demands of complex server environments, advanced database applications, financial organizations, and midsized companies can be satisfied at an affordable price and superior value with LTO4 solution. HP’s new innovative drive technologies and media formulation have helped to create a smart backup system that features 25% higher backup rate and twice the media capacity of LTO 3 tape system. LTO4 cartridge saves an enormous 800 gigabytes of data without compression. Twice the storage capacity within the same sized cartridge means fewer tapes required for backup storage.

HP LTO 4 drives deliver long term reliability and a super fast speed of 864GB/hour (compressed mode). Like previous generation LTO drives, HP has also designed table top & internal models of LTO 4 drives. So, the users can select the right drive unit that can easily fit within their IT center. These drives come standard with W.O.R.M mechanism and also offer the new reliable encryption system. The drives will encrypt the data with an intelligent AES algorithm featuring a 256-bit code. So even if the tapes are stolen or the I.T staff misplaces them, the information can’t be used maliciously.

Another benefit of adopting this HP LTO4 technology is that you won’t run out of storage space and the current investment will be extended. The answer is simple, the current backup system can be upgraded to HP’s next generation LTO ultrium 5, which is 15% faster. Moreover, there is an exceptional enhancement in capacity reaching up to 88%. A magnificent amount of 1500GB/3000GB data can be packed at a high speed of 240MB/s (native) on the small sized ultrium5 tape. C7975A and C7974A are the HP LTO5 and LTO4 tape’s part number.

HP LTO5 drives reliably read/write LTO4 cartridges as well. So the previous dataset can be efficiently utilized with the new LTO5 ultrium system and make best use of the prior investment. Offsite preservation of tapes is strongly recommended by the I.T professionals, because it provides you a source to recover data if there is an on-site disaster like fire, flood etc. Both these HP LTO tape models fulfill the offsite storage demand as they have a strong cartridge shell. In addition, they are highly resistant against un-favorable working conditions.

By installing a durable LTO system manufactured by the co-inventor of LTO technology, users can feel 100% confident that their backup system will deliver you the robust data security and cost-efficient performance required to succeed in today’s business world.
