What’s different about shrimp is that they are frozen and processed at sea. Therefore, people prefer to buy these tiny sea creatures in the frozen state and with shells open. Moreover, these not only assure taste but keep people fit and active. Heart conditions get massively improved, and one can even savor these as many as possible.

So, are you planning a seafood party? If yes, you can go to your local seafood outlet and check whether fresh shrimps are available. However, if you think that it’s not a safer option, you can always browse several sites and get in touch with professional seafood dealers. Make sure you talk to a registered dealer who can provide you quality stuffs. So, here are a few points you should keep in mind while purchasing shrimp:

If you find shrimps already peeled, avoid them. First, they will come frozen and then will be thawed. In fact, a shrimp without a shell will always be considered unprotected in the freezer.

The shrimp you buy should have a full and firm shell stuffed with white meat.

If you find them with rings or black spots, discard them since they might affect your health after consuming. Now, if you are going for tiger shrimp, you might get to see dark spots or rings.

The shell should not look yellow. Yellow shelled shrimps are considered bleached.

Avoid meat that is pink in color.

The shrimps you would buy must not smell like salt water.

Clams

Clams on the other hand are also popular among sea foodies. In fact, there are ample subspecies that either falls in the category of soft shell or hard shell. Well, the classifications are a bit confusing since the consumers often find difficult to distinguish between a hard shelled and a soft shelled clam. The hard shelled ones are known as Quahog clams. These are considered perfect for preparing chowders or stews.

Clams with soft shells are referred to steamers. Well, they are not so good to eat and come with a lot of sand, and therefore, tougher to clean. However, these can taste good if cooked in the right manner. In fact, if you can serve them hot with lemon and extracted butter, you will keep asking for them more and more.
