Smoky Eyes and Halloween Pair Up

Smokey eyes and Halloween seem to go together like witches and goblins, apples and pumpkins, full moons and haunted houses, don’t they? For centuries the look of the ghoul or the witch has inspired the cat walks and the street, and women (and men alike) have been attracted to getting a smoldering look for special occasions.

During the 1960s, Twigy made it popular to have a lot of black eyeliner on top and bottom and add to the drama by extending her bottom lashes by drawing them on her lower lids and down. False eyelashes and lots of under shadow, coupled with dark layers of color on the upper lids are the keys to getting your own set of smoky eyes.

This year was no different. All across the Internet over the course of the last week of October was one video after another showing women and men how to rock the smoldering smoky eye look with their Halloween costume or just to get a sultry look on the scariest night of the year.

One of the most popular female costumes this year has to be Lady Gaga and she is probably the queen of the smoky eye. She changes her look almost daily and certainly when she performs, and often two or three times during a a performance.

Lady G uses a blend of black shadow along the base of her eyelid and sometimes glitter to give her a good solid base. She’ll then lay over the black with a thick eyeliner along the eyelid and underneath the bottom lashes too before applying another layer of matt silver or white along the eye bone and in the corner of the eye where the upper and lower lids meet up for a dazzling final effect.

Vampira uses a lot of greens and blues in her smoky eyes look and you can do this too if you want to make a statement. She’ll often put the blue right up next to her eyebrow and add layer of silver over that to give her the vampy, dark look. Sometimes she’ll use the same black lipstick to go over the shadow on her eyes.

After you put on the smoky shadows and eyeliners, you want to top it all off with a thick layer of mascara. This puts the final touch on your smokey eyes makeup application process. Start with a good lash thickening mascara and apply two to three coats as need, then follow up with an eyelash curl for extra lengthening. You can also add sequence and glitter to the corner of your eye lids, which really creates a very dramatic look.

Of course, getting a good ghoul on is always part of the Halloween fun isn’t it? So you can start your look with a white makeup base on the entire face. This will give you that dead again look before you get to the eyes. Use black on the lids in and underneath with white or silver up on top, making sure to apply in big circles around your entire eye. Think of Uncle Fester from Adams Family and if you aren’t old enough to know who that is, Google him and find out why he loved to wear the smoky eyes every day.

It’s not required to have a license is professional studio makeup to get sexy, smoldering eyes right at home and often using inexpensive make up products. Although, there are brand name cosmetic companies out there who are making great smoldering and smoky eye kits already to go. All you have to do is open, apply and rock your own smoky eyes look for Halloween, a dance, a club night out, New Year’s eve or anytime you want to turn heads when you walk into a room.
