How to Get an Air Source Heat Pump Installed: a Step by Step Guidance

The word heat pump refers to a variety of HVAC system that uses expansion and compression to get thermal energy transferred from cold to warm environments. The compressor essentially works by pressurizing a refrigerant. Air is then blown over the heated refrigerant, thereby cooling the whole thing down to room temperature. The refrigerant is allowed to expand. Hence, the liquid gets cooled well below the room temperature, before being actually passed through heat exchangers outside the property. The outside air warms some of the liquid, which, in turn, gets extracted again during the compression stage. If you wish to get an Air source heat pump installed at your property, then follow these simple steps.

Get the radiant heat exchanger of the air source heat pump placed in front of the ventilation system’s blower fan. It is absolutely imperative for the heat exchanger to fit up to the fan snugly, forming an air tight seal. A small piece of refrigerant tubing needs to be connected between the compressor’s output and radiant heat’s input. Shorter the section of tubing, better it gets. In other words, if the tubing is short, it would invariably lead to better efficiency.

Next, you would be required to run a refrigerant tubing piece from the heat exchanger output straight down to the place where the external heat exchanger stands. The latter will need to be put on a level and hard surface. Get expansion port’s pressurized sides connected to the tubing running straight from the internal heat exchangers. Your air source heat pump installation is about to come full circle.

Once these initial stages are over, time now to establish a connection between the refrigerant filling port and the compressor’s unit. A piece of tubing should now run from the filling port out to the external heat exchanger’s location. This is one step essential to both air source and Ground source Heat pump installation processes.

The input of the external heat exchanger should be connected to the expansion port’s depressurized side. The output of the external heat exchanger in your air source heat pump will remain connected with the tube running all the way to the compressor.
