South Tyrol is a province found at the very top of Italy in the Dolomite mountain range. It is widely German speaking due to its proximity to the Austrian borders despite its Italian nationality. There is a deep history in this area concerning its people and their involvement in World War I and II. Today, it is a peaceful area great for a relaxing holiday. You will find a wide range of outdoor activities to do all year long amidst the beautiful scenery of the countryside.

The two biggest cities in South Tyrol are Bozen and Merano. They are nestled between the mountains as they lie at the bottom of green valleys. Both cities are major ski destinations for Italians and other Europeans. The scenery is spectacular and it is easy to see why the area attracts a large following. You can easily get their by train or car from major cities across Europe. If you are looking for something unique, then this place is where you should come for your next holiday.

If skiing is not your thing, then skip the beach and head to the north of Italy. You can stay at a small pensione and go hiking during the day. Your pictures will look amazing and you will be relaxed without having to worry about seeing all the historic landmarks of a large city.
