Assam Tourism – the Land of Rich Canopy of Forests and Lovely Rivers
Assam is one of the Seven Sister States in the North-Eastern region of India. It is guarded by the Himalayas and the mighty river Brahmaputra flows through its heart. The state is famous for its tea gardens which is famous world-wide. Over the years, the Ministry of Assam Tourism has tried to bring this beautiful state in the forefront and as a result, the influx of tourists here has increased remarkably. Various kinds of Assam tourism packages, both by government and private travel agencies have made the work of the tourists even easier.
The beauty of Assam is largely attributed to the Himalayas. The foothills are calm and serene and are the perfect way to spend pleasant days in the wooden bungalows. A trip to the tea gardens is not only rejuvenating amongst all the greenery but also very enriching as one can catch a glimpse of the entire process of tea picking and processing. Tea festivals are also organized where large scale auctions take place. The Brahmaputra itself is a picture of beauty and one can also try river rafting here, though special permission has to be taken. The valleys are perfect for paragliding. And if adventure is your forte, then there is no better way than to trek the terrain on foot. A whole new vista of beauty will open up before you every moment.
Assam is a land of innumerable festivals and much of Assam tourism revolves around them. Bihu is considered the national festival of Assam. Ali-ai-Ligang festival is unique to the Mishing tribe of Assam. The Ambubachi Mela is a religious fair, celebrated in the Kamakhya Temple to worship the Divine Feminine, to celebrate her divine capability of the female of bringing forth life into the world, and also to celebrate the fertility of Mother Earth. The Brahmaputra Beach festival takes place in Guwahati, the capital of Assam. The Rajini Gabra and Harni Gabra is the festival of the Dimasa tribe. And there are so many more of their kinds that will leave you asking for more. Every year, throngs of people descend upon the hills to participate in the rituals.
What really works for Assam is that the prices and rates of travel here are quite affordable. And transport in the mountains has improved a lot. You will surely fall in love with Assam after your visit here and will be planning many more such vacations here for sure.
