Advantages and Features of Portable Two-Way Radios

By James Blee Subscribe to RSS | March 22nd 2012 | Views:

The invention of radio has led to the discovery of many other technologies which work on its principles. The portable two way radio make the best example which provides you with crystal clear communication over considerable distances without creating any worries about monthly payments or bills. It can transmit as well as receive communication from another similar device operating on the same radio frequency. They work on the half-duplex mode which enable the user to talk or listen but not at the same time unlike a mobile phone. The PTT button incorporated within the device activates the transmission when pressed..

These radios are capable of operating over a wide range of frequencies. Each country has its unique set of working frequencies. While working with these radios, a user need not tune to a particular frequency as channelized operations are generally used which means using one or more pre-selected frequencies as per the user’s wish or convenience..

Capable of operating both in UHF and VHF frequency bands, the performance of these devices entirely depends on the line-of-sight propagation in an area without any shadowing effects. As UHF band uses shorter wavelength during propagation, it proves to be convenient for the sound wave to get transmitted through rough surfaces or inside structures. The VHF lacks this feature but it is advantageous in covering longer distances under ideal conditions. The UHF has more channels and hence it causes less interference from other communications but VHF does not have this specialty.

The use of a particular frequency band depends on factors like the area of working and surrounding environment and hence choosing the correct frequency suiting the environment can yield better result. Moreover there are also many types of portable two-way radio systems which have its unique working feature and output performance.
