Every motor vehicle and trailer has a plate attached to it for its identification purpose. This is made of metal, plastic or acrylic and has a numeric or alphanumeric code printed on it, which is unique to the vehicle and issued by the concerned authority. In some countries, the codes are allocated to the vehicle while others allow the re-registration of the vehicle with personal or customized plates.

These can be purchased from various companies that stock such plates and the prices vary from very low to very high depending on what the client wants.
