UK’s ‘Best City Van’ Revealed – Citroen Nemo
The stunning performance of the Citroen Nemo has won it the ‘Best City Van 2012’ award during the Trade Van Driver Awards. Sometimes known in the UK’s motor industry as the ‘cheeky Nemo’, this model perfectly complements the urban environment, making it an ideal choice to lease or purchase for commercial city driving.
The Nemo model is ideal. It’s versatile, affordable to run, returns amazing fuel economy figures and boasts low CO2 emissions of just 109/km. The Citroen Nemo van comes in a choice of petrol and diesel engine, both of which comply with the new European emission regulations. The big van payload, close to 660 kg, combined with a spacious and flexible cargo compartment, make this model operational and efficient and perfect for transporting materials from A to B in built up areas.
Peugeot and Citroen don’t offer ESP on the Bipper Tepee and Nemo Multispace respectively, while it costs £310 extra on diesel-powered Qubos and is not available on the petrol version.
As a result, Citroen has confirmed that ESP will be fitted as standard on oil burners from September, while petrol models will get it later as it will have to be developed from scratch. Expect Fiat and Peugeot to follow suit.
The test demonstrates the benefit of ESP systems that has led to it becoming mandatory for all new cars sold here from 2012.A Citroen spokesman added that despite the notoriety of the elk test, it’s not something the company tests its cars for. “The elk test is extremely severe, so our normal procedures don’t include it. Instead, they reflect more real-life conditions.”
As you might expect of a car that shares much of its underpinnings with a van, this is a model that's designed for hard work, and the whole look and feel of the car reflect that. To some eyes, it might be rather minimal - especially for safety - and we'd certainly recommend fitting the optional air-conditioning. On the other hand, the Nemo is surprisingly good to drive and very easy to manoeuvre. It's even quite refined, but the real attraction will be the car's low price and running costs.
There is also an opportunity to convert the van into a chiller or freezer van for businesses which transport food and chilled goods. This best city van provides low cost business transport for all types of operations and offers excellent value for money, with its success pointing to Citroën’s dedication and commitment to offer customers the best commercial vans in the UK’s auto-industry. The award winning ‘cheeky’ Nemo: A truly worthy winner!
