A thermometer is used to measure temperature of a body. Be it for cooking, body heat, and atmospheric temperature, barometric liquid, they can be used for all these purposes. After a certain period of time, the digital thermometer should be readjusted. Thermometer calibration can be done easily and using certain easily available items like ice, water, glass and hot water.

Recalibration of the thermometer becomes necessary in certain conditions like it’s not handled properly, the first time it’s used, the same thermometer is used to measure temperatures that differ a lot like extremely high and low temperatures, if the thermometer is used at a regular basis. It should be always remembered that daily thermometer calibration is the best thing to do if it’s used in restaurants or laboratories and will be advised by many. There are two simple methods for thermometer calibration. The first one is called the ice point method. An insulated glass vessel is filled up with crushed ice and then water is added to it. After a gap of five minutes, the sensor of the thermometer is dipped into the vessel. Care should be taken that the sensor is properly dipped and is 1 inch away from the side, top or bottom of the vessel. It should be kept in that fashion for about 30 seconds till the digital thermometer bleeps or the dial becomes static. It should point to 32 Fahrenheit after the duration it was inserted into the vessel failing so will again require to be recalibrated. It’s the ideal way of calibrating a thermometer. The other way of thermometer calibration is by boiling point method. A vessel is filled with water up to six inches height. After that the sensor of the thermometer is dipped into it just like before but the distance between the side or bottom walls or top should be 2 inches. The reading at the end of duration should be 212 Fahrenheit.
