The most effective means of killing bed bugs
Question: In our quest for the most effective means of killing bed bugs, we have decided to do a mixture of insecticides like Cyonara, ExciteR and IGR. May we have your opinion on this? Are we doing the right thing? Or are we just wasting our energy in this endeavor?
Answer: Yes, we believe you are on the right track about this whole thing about mixing a pyrethroid and a pyrethrin. Let me start my explanation with Cyonara first. It is a pyrethroid – an activie ingredient lambda-cyalothrin. This is known to knock out bugs fast. The other one is ExciteR, which is a natural pyrethrin (pyrethrum). Basically, it is oil found in flowers, but because of its unavailability, there was a move to create something like it in the science laboratories, which ultimately led to the creation of synthetic pyrethroids in the first place. Since they are almost like one of the same, it wouldn't really hurt to mix them and it's also not necessary. The most positive outcome might be that you will have a faster kill rate. So really, a pyrethroid and a pyrethrum may give you an increased percentage of success in eliminating the bed bugs but it's also not necessary if a dead bug is a dead bug. As for the IGR, we can suggest that you use the one specifically labeled for bed bugs. There are many bugs that are affected by insect growth regulators (IGRs) and there are a lot of IGRs available on the market for a broad spectrum of pests. Like insecticides with a killing effect, IGRs also have a target list of pests that it will effect. Choose one that is made to target bed bugs. Gentrol IGR is one that Pest Mall recommends for bed bug control. Moreover, it's the bed bug IGR that's included in all the bed bug kits that we provide.
Can we offer some other advice too?
Although it is good to use chemicals in your fight against bed bugs, we would also recommend the use of non-chemical methods in conjunction with your chemical treatment plan. Things like mattress encasements, box spring encasements, steamers, and monitoring traps will make all the difference in the world for a complete control of bed bugs.
With bed bugs, you can never be sure of anything. It is important to be as ready as ever. It is also important to stay ahead of them as much as you can. Read books about bed bugs. Research them online and be assertive with treatment plans after consulting with professionals. Get as much information as you can. Also, stay with the current developments. Aside from that, seminars are good venues to talk to people with the same inclination and share experiences. Who knows, you might even get more out of it than what you have bargained for?
