NSW Tenders have been released for Sydney’s New Years Eve Pyrotechnics Displays which promises to attract a niche group of respondents. If you don’t know how to handle red hot fireworks, do not apply! Tenderers are required to demonstrate their capacity, financial and technical capability for completing the project within the required timeframe, have had previous experience on similar sized projects and demonstrate a commitment to OH&S and environmentally sound principles.

This is a serious party – there is even an app to keep you up to date with what is happening, where.

New Year’s Eve revellers danced and cheered to a high-tech Midnight Fireworks display, set to Australian rock music, as a giant endless rainbow appeared on the Sydney Harbour Bridge to mark the beginning of 2012.

Multicoloured fireworks in the shape of clouds, bowties, spirals, hearts, smiley-faces and rectangles lit up Sydney, as an estimated 1.5 million people gathered along the harbour, awestruck by the world-leading display.

Last night’s Sydney Harbour Bridge Effect was the most complex ever created and was inspired by Marc Newson’s minimalistic, four-coloured NYE11 “endless rainbow”.

The 36m x 36m installation, made up of 11 kilometres of rope lights and 600 circuits, began with a silver-lined cloud, which morphed into a thought-bubble, before a fragmented endless rainbow appeared in the traditional Aussie colours of green and gold.

The fragmented endless rainbow then spun like a film countdown, ticking down the seconds to midnight, which was marked by the appearance of a solid endless rainbow and the sky exploding in colourful fireworks.

Hundreds of thousands of people travelled to Sydney’s harbour foreshore to watch the fireworks displays.

“Sydney New Year’s Eve is Australia’s single biggest annual event, generating $156 million for our economy in just one night,” Lord Mayor Clover Moore said after the event last year.

The $270,000 clean-up operation involved the use of 53 trucks, sweepers and compactors, 600 mobile garbage bins to support the City’s 600 street litter bins, which were filled with plastic bottles, food containers and food scraps. The City also used a truck and operator from Campbelltown Council.

For fireworks fans, a fireworks show is also called a pyrotechnics show, or event. The earliest documentation of fireworks, according to Wikipedia dates back to the seventh century in China where they were invented. Not surprisingly, China is the largest manufaturer of fireworks in the world.

The most common feature of fireworks is a paper or pasteboard tube or casing filled with the combustible material, often pyrotechnic stars. A number of these tubes or cases are often combined so as to make, when kindled, a great variety of sparkling shapes, often variously coloured. The skyrocket is a common form of firework, although the first skyrockets were used in war.

This NSW Tenders were advertised on government and private websites.
