Have you ever thought how the freezer works? Do you know what makes your TV screens show perfect picture when the AC current fluctuates? There is always an electromagnet to make the operation possible in any electronic and electrical device. In case of electromagnet the magnetic field is produced when the electrical energy is flows into it. The magnetic field disappears as soon as you turn the current of. It is used in the field of electronics widely..

The making of Electromagnets is rather easy. A copper wire is wrapped on a coil many times in such a manner that each ring is close to each other. When the electric current flows through it the each of the ring of the wire creates a magnetic field of its own and the field is concentrated in the center. When the wire is wrapped on a soft iron the power multiplies thousand times. The power of an electromagnet depends on the metal used in it, the thickness of the copper wire and the current that passes through it.

The metal that is using for the copper wire to wrap is called the core of the magnet. In general the metal is iron as the magnetic power of iron is much more than any other metal. In an iron core there are small magnetic cores that act like small magnets that keep the metal tight. The points are generally in random direction but once the current is turned on and the current passes through the copper wire the magnetic field in the wire goes into the iron and they align parallel to the magnetic field. When the current is cut off the magnetic fields in the iron are again randomized with cancels the magnetic property. This is how Electromagnets work.
