Dressing to crack the interview
So you got a call for the interview but still in two minds about the dress you are going to wear that day? Well, some pointers might help you to finalize the dress.
Easy dressing: It’s very important that when you are giving an interview, you are solely focused on interview and interview alone and not feeling uncomfortable in what you are in. But the look you are carrying should have a professional feel to it. Relaxed dressing infuses you with poise. So it is important to dress in that fashion.
Say no to perfumes: Some offices don’t take too kindly when it comes to wearing perfumes, be it their employees or even visitors. Even if there is no such policy, it is better to play safe and staying away from the cologne. This applies for both men and women. Some perfumes might irritate the interviewers; others might associate the odor with someone unpleasant. It is better to have a clean slate to start off with and not let the others judge you by what perfume you wear.
Not being the odd one out: It is advised to keep your fashion flairs in check and have a conservative look when you dress for the interview. Even if you decide to add in certain stylish elements, they better look in sync with the overall look and shouldn’t stand out. It is important that the ones who are interviewing you remember for your skills for the job under consideration and not some quirks in your clothing. Because in the end that is the only thing which counts.
Before the D-Day:
• Check the fit of the dress that you are eventually going to wear. Snip off the treads that might have come loose.
• Iron anything that needs it the night before. Don’t wait for the day to arrive as you might have bigger things to worry on that day.
• Put in your effort when you polish your shoes.
• Keep your accessories and jewelry to a minimum. The look should be a subtle one.
It is very possible if you cannot find the issue that troubles you in the above points, like a nagging doubt about wearing an accessory, a certain dress just let it stay at your home only. Just remember that you should feel positive, ready and practiced for that all important interviews. Rest assured, you are going to crack it. All the best!
