Automotive Service: Need an Automotive Repair before a Road Trip?
Road trips are exciting to look forward to, especially when you have prepared your vehicle with a recent automotive service. So, if you are planning a road-trip, place a good deal of emphasis on preparing your vehicle so you don’t get caught having an emergency automotive repair somewhere down the road.
Here are three suggestions that will help you to have a safe and enjoyable trip:
1. Take your car to your regular mechanic two weeks prior to your trip for an automotive service. Give ample time to make necessary repairs, and allow room for adjustments. If your mechanic finds problems and needs to make repairs on your vehicle, you will want a week or so as a "break in period" to test the fix(es) before you hit the road. If anything goes wrong after a major automotive repair, it will generally happen in the first 100-200 miles. Allow enough time to feel confident that the repairs made will not be an issue as soon as you get outside your city limits.
2. To aid in your driving comfort, install new wiper blades and fill the washer reservoir with washer solvent to help keep the windshield clean. Take a few of your favorite music CD's, wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and don’t forget your jacket and rain gear in case of an emergency situation. Of course, a cell phone is very helpful, but make sure you will have reception in the region you are traveling, and don't forget the battery charger. Some cell phone companies offer roadside assistance for their customers. Call your service provider and see if they offer this service.
3. Tell your mechanic where you will be travelling as he performs your automotive service. If you will be traveling in a hilly, snowy location and maybe pulling a small trailer, he should inspect items that would be more prone to cause trouble in that kind of situation. Traveling through a hot arid dessert would require a different king of inspection than a winter trip.
Although it may cost you a few extra dollars, allowing your mechanic ample time to inspect and conduct an automotive service properly before a road trip, should be your number one priority. The peace of mind that it gives you is well worth the financial outlay.
