Ford is also developing Ecosport diesel version for India

All this time Ford did not utter and information about the diesel version of Ford EcoSport SUV despite numerous questions being surfaced about the diesel version of Ford EcoSport. Our close source to development informed us that Ford diesel is apparently in the making. If this information is correct as we presume then Ford EcoSprt diesel should make it to the Indian car market. Indian car market as it is getting a surging demand for diesel powered cars which might have changed Ford’s decision to launch the petrol version first and the diesel version later. The petrol version which was showcased at the 2012 Auto Expo, in New Delhi earlier this year in the month of January, will be housed with a 1 litre three pot EcoBoost turbopetrol engine.

However details on the specifications of the diesel engine has not been revealed by the car maker yet, but we think that Ford could equip diesel trim with a 1. 5litre TDCI turbo diesel engine that is currently powering Ford Fiesta diesel. This engine deliver a maximum power of 90 Bhp and a peak torque of 200 Nm. The size of the engine makes it a perfect option for Ford EcoSport, also it will be benefited by the low excise duty levied on the engine.

EcoSport is endowed with contemporary looks that makes it different from the other SUVs present in India. Ecosport India price will be a major attraction for the Indian customers and hence Ford is hoping that it will be able to generate volumes and help Ford gain market share in the Indian car market. Until now Ford’s most successful model in India has been its popular small car Ford Figo which was launched in India two year back in the year 2010. Ford is now readying itself to launch an upgraded model of Figo. However, the other three cars, Ford Endeavour, Ford Fiesta Classic and Ford Fiesta are other cars that are present in Ford India’s portfolio. Ford Fiesta Classic too has not been able to make place for itself in the hearts of Indian customers. Its new version Ford Fiesta which was launched with new features and looks last year faced issues due to its high price tag, however, the company sensed the problem and slashed Ford Fiesta price to keep it abreast with other cars in the sedan segment.

Ford’s success in India came after a long wait, several cars from Ford’s clan which were earlier a part of Indian car market had to be phased out due to their scanty sales. Figo turned fate for Ford in India and is still the highest selling model from Ford in India, looking at the immense success for Ford in India, Ford might come up with more new small cars to lure the customers. For now Ford EcoSport is being highly awaited and we hope that it lives up to the expectations of Ford and Ford car lovers.
