The computers have helped the police to track down suspected individuals or items and follow them. The various suspected things could be false number plates, identification cards etc.

A police laptop is more commonly known as the MDT or mobile data terminal. These MDTs have changed the entire concept of police patrolling. The laptops or the computers used in the police departments differ in their performance and ability from the normal machines. They are also known for their high stamina and shock absorbing capabilities which have encouraged them to be used in the navy and army forces. Some customized softwares have enabled the police department to reduce the monotonous paperwork and other time consuming activities. Public safety data can be easily transmitted from one department to another, irrespective of their location. Due to their performance and durability, they are often termed as the rugged computers. The databases stored in these computers help the investigating officers or the detectives to go through interrogation report files and information on encounters, which guide them to suspected criminals and their alliances.
