For More Fun Watch “ So You Think You Can Dance ”
So You Think You Can Dance was started by American Idol producer Simon Fuller and Nigel Lythgoe. It was aired on July 20, 2005. 19Entertainment and Dick Clark Productions produced the programme. The very first season was hosted by Lauren Sanchez, America news personality.
This show is a dance competition that is broadcasted n Fox in United States. The contestant are selected from different US cities and with tiring procedure the group have to move to different cities to take auditions to select the best dancers who can form a part of the programme. After checking their dance its time to select the best person with unique qualities style and talent. People selected in this round are put through another round to test their ability to adapt new style of dance. After the whole session, the list of selected contestants is reduced and then these contestants ace the main phase of the competition. They have to perform different styles in dance like solo, duet and group dance. The contestants are selected by judges every week who will move further but need audience vote. According to the format 20 contestants are added to the competition. The winner of the show in the end will be rewarded with a cash prize of $250,000 and other awards along with the title of “ America’s Favourite Dancer ”
The show had total eight seasons and during these eight season Nick Lazzarini, Benjamin, Schwimmer, Sabra Johnson, Joshua Allen, Jeanine Mason, Russell Ferguson, Lauren Froderman and Melanie Moore were the winner for the show. The judges during the season were not the same for all the seasons but 2-3 were permanent which includes executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, he was the one who was the judge for all the seasons other judges includes Mary Murphy, Adam Shankman and Mia Michael.
During the eight season, programme has started many different dance styles in their routine. Four major styles were Western cotemporary/ classical styles, ballroom style, street style and Jazz. Many other different styles were performed but these four have been seen performing in routine.
The series receives 10 million viewers in 2005. In 2009 show got 3.4 rating and got 4 rating on Dance. During July 2010 the series got 5.6 million viewers. After seventh season Mary Murphy will replace the judge of the show Mia Michael, with this change Rating of the show was increased and over five million viewers people were the viewing the show in 2011. This programme became adults No. 1 rated show.
The series received numerous nomination every year from 2007- 2011 and got many awards for Outstanding Choreographer, Outstanding Costumes for a Variety, Music Program or a Special, Music or Comedy Series, Choice Summer Series and Choice TV Breakout Show. It has won seven Emmy Awards for Outstanding Choreography and total nine Emmy awards in all.
