Variations in Number plates

Every motor vehicle and trailer has a plate attached to it for its identification purpose. This is made of metal, plastic or acrylic and has a numeric or alphanumeric code printed on it, which is unique to the vehicle and issued by the concerned authority. This unique code identifies the vehicle in the issuing region’s database. In some countries, this code is unique within the entire country; in some, it is unique within the state or province. It is called license plate, license tag, Number plate or registration plate depending upon the country.

Legal Necessities:

In most of the countries, it is required that the plate be attached to the front and rear of the vehicle. From this code a lot of other information can be acquired, for instance, the make, model, year of manufacture, color, engine size, type of fuel used, mileage recorded during the roadworthiness test, the chassis number and the name and address of the owner. In some countries, the codes are allocated to the vehicle while others allow the re-registration of the vehicle with personal or customized plates.

Customized plates:

These are also called show plates. Often people like to customize their Car number plates so that they can show them off at car shows; hence the name show plates. It is one way to upgrade ones car. These can be purchased from various companies that stock such plates and the prices vary from very low to very high depending on what the client wants. Some companies have a huge collection of side badges, background images, colors, borders and fonts from where the client can come up with unique designer combinations. Many companies have an online designer tool where the client can design and make a show plate of his choice in a matter of seconds. Often auctions take place to buy a coveted show plate.
