Prints to suit petite women
If you’re a petite woman, buying clothes can be tough. Trousers in high street stores are almost always too long, and as for maxi dresses – don’t even bother. But there are plenty of ways to look great as a petite woman, without resorting to getting things altered. One of them is to choose printed dresses that make you look taller and more buxom – you just have to know which prints to go for and where to find them.
Many petite women choose to wear dresses over trousers because trousers are almost always too long. However, even dresses can swamp you in material, causing you to lose your body’s elegant silhouette. To give yourself more shape, go for a dress that starts at the shoulder and ends at the knee. With this style of dress, avoid all-over prints and choose items with a distinguished top and bottom half. For instance, a knee length dress that’s white on top but gradually shades into a floral pattern as you reach the hem. Alternatively, go for a side pattern, that’s more dominant on one side of the dress than the other. This can give the illusion of cinching in larger waists.
All-over prints can also work, if the style of dress is right. For instance, printed dresses with high waistlines will break up your body and make your bottom half look longer. Wrap dresses and side-ties can also look great, but it’s important not to choose a dress that’s too fiddly. Too many pockets, pleats and frills may drown your body shape, so stick to clean styles with an emphasis on a bright print for added detail.
The kind of prints you choose will depend largely on your personal style. Horizontal stripes are generally very flattering on petite dresses, and floral prints are also desirable. If you’re keen to wear animal prints, stay away from all-over leopard print and opt for something a bit more varied - for example, a plain top and a leopard print or zebra print skirt. Breaking up your look like this will elongate your body and emphasise your petite figure without making you look short.
It’s also advisable to go for more bold colours, like bright greens and blues, as well as sophisticated hues like deep red, purple and ivory. Pastel colours like pink and lilac risk making you look a bit childish, especially if you’re wearing a dress with ballet pumps. And speaking of shoes, a pair of good high heels can work wonders for petite women. Block coloured heels go best with printed petite dresses, though wedges can also work wonders.
