The Mind of Carp
The carp and the herring are good friends. They lived a quiet life in a small pond. The Pond is small and the food is not rich enough, but they had a great time.
One day, the carp came out to play and did not find the herring, so it asked the turtle: “Do you know where my companion has gone?” “I heard it had moved to another place.” The turtle said, “It has moved to a large pond in another place, where the water is broad and food is fine. Oh, it must have a better life!” Hearing this, the carp felt sour in its heart and blocked in its chest. For several days, it had had poor sleep and appetite, without any spirit. “Oh, it is really boring to be living! Living in this poor place alone, where nothing is available, will never make me see daylight.” It said so when meeting anyone. “I heard it had moved to another place.” The turtle said, “It has moved to a large pond in another place, where the water is broad and food is fine.
A few days later, it met the tortoise again. “Can you tell me that why the herring lives better than me? It is not so competent as I.” It asked the tortoise. “The herring?” the tortoise said, “I was about to tell you that the news I heard a few days ago is false. The herring was actually fished away. Whether it is dead or alive is not known. We are all worried about it!” “Really?” the carp suddenly cheered up, “Thank you for giving me good news.”
When some people see others are better than themselves, they will be unhappy; when other people encounter a disaster, he will be elated. This is an unhealthy state of mind.
