Leaving Essay Writing Behind Advice for Students Going Home for Christmas

Going home for Christmas at the end of term is something all university students look forward to. But with last-minute essay deadlines, final concerts to play in and sports matches to win, it can be one of the busiest periods of the university calendar. It is easy to find yourself suddenly at the end of term with travel arrangements to make, belongings to transport and no idea how to organise it all!

The first and most important piece of advice for students going home for Christmas is to make sure that you book your travel well in advance. Around Christmas time, bus, train and aeroplane fares soar and you can end up paying double the normal price for your ticket if you leave it to the last minute to book. Go online several weeks in advance of your trip to book tickets at the cheapest prices and remember that a National Student Railcard can save you a third off the price of all train fares. That’s the budget for your Mum’s Christmas present sorted then!

If you’re leaving a student room over the holidays, whether you live in halls or in a shared house, there are certain precautions that it’s wise to take. Make sure all your belongings are securely locked away and consider investing in a good padlock for your wardrobe or desk, even if your room will be separately locked. Empty student houses are an obvious target for thieves over Christmas time, so make sure you securely lock all windows and doors before leaving the house and consider leaving a lamp on a timer setting to give the impression of somebody still living there. Make sure you switch off all other lights and heating however, unless you want to come back to a nasty shock when you receive your January bills!

Students from overseas face different problems; learning how to write a UK essay is one thing, but negotiating the British Rail transport system, or even travelling all the way home for Christmas can be a logistical nightmare! Luckily, there are great companies out there to help. It can be tricky to fit piles of books and files into a suitcase, but many companies now offer international transit of wooden crates or boxes for a low price. This can save you a huge amount of effort and muscle-ache trying to drag everything with you on your flight! Look for one specifically targeted at students and make sure you shop around online for the lowest price.

Many students are concerned about forgetting what they’ve learned or ‘slipping’ academically over the Christmas holidays, especially when returning abroad, but you can always prevent this by taking some inspirational essays home with you! Websites like oxbridgeessays.com provide top quality essay and dissertation examples from leading UK academics, enabling you to compare your work to some of the best in the country. Use them to keep your mind sharp and your essay skills up to scratch until you come back for another hard-working term.
